from our editors in Puka Secondary School, Estonia
In Estonia the school year begins on the first of September. When the 1st is a Sunday, we usually start on the following Monday. There is school in September and October. At the end of October we have our first holidays, autumn holidays. They are one week long. Then there is school in November and December. Some days before Christmas Eve our Christmas holidays start. After Christmas we come to school again in January. This year it was the 8th. Our longest term is the third term. It lasts till the middle of March. Then we have a short rest, just one week. April and May seem to be the longest months. Everybody is looking forward to summer already. At the end of each term we get reports. It means that we have to work hard to have good marks on our reports. The highest mark is a 5, the lowest a 1. Our summer holidays begin at the beginning of June. This year we will finish on the 2nd of June. As you can see, our summer holidays last for three months. Everybody wants to have a good rest in summer. Summer is usually a warm season in Estonia. We go swimming, visit friends and grandparents, go cycling, play sports when it is warm. On rainy days we read, watch TV, play video or computer games. We help our parents with housework, work in the garden and sometimes on the fields. We wish all our readers a very nice spring. Leena Punga and her students from Puka, Estonia |
