The hunt should start in February and end 1st of April. The hunters were allowed to use helicopters to perform this hunt, because the area is difficult to move around in. Also there were some people demonstrating against the hunting, which made it difficult for the hunters. Just before the hunting started one wolf belonging to the group in Rendalen that should not be hunted at had to be killed because it had major injuries in his leg. During the firs days of the hunt they also discovered that the group in Atnadalen had 9, not 8 members. During the hunt the couple in Imsdalen, two females, were killed, also 8 of the 9 in Atnadalen. Among those 8 were the alfa male and the alfa female. The female were pregnant with 6 puppies. |
A lot of people are against this hunt. But the people living in this area fear for their animals, sheep, dogs and other wild animals are killed by the wolves. Some sheep has also been killed inside their barns or inside the fences. Wolves have been seen close to kindergartens and schools. During this winter one man in Rendalen experienced an attack from a wolf to his dog while he was walking along a road with his dog in a leach.
We think there are to many wolves in this region. Every year both the groups get 6-8 new puppies, and if no wolves get hunted down the farmers in our municipalities will soon have to stop farming. Other wild animals will also suffer. We also have to take care of a population of moose, elk, deer and rein-deer. |
