A Czech scientist, who invented contact lenses and nylon. He studied chemistry and when he graduated, he worked at a university. In the year 1942 he was arrested by Gestapo for a short time. In 1961 he invented contact lenses in his flat when he used bricks for children called Merkur. He offered his invention-contact lenses-to an American company, which started to produce it. First machine for producing lenses was built in 1962. During his whole life he worked on about 150 patents.
