The Martisor Celebration

Martisor is represented by the traditional plaited rope from white and red silk.
It is said that these colours are two hearts that have fallen in love, a princess and a prince. They have come from another world because their parents tried to separate them.
So the princess has given as a gift to the prince a white lily. This lily has changed into a white thread. The prince has given the princess a red rose that has changed into a red thread. The two threads plaited into a rope that became the symbol of love that brought the two souls together on the 1st of March. They got their blessing from God Mars, the prince’s father. This blessing changes each year into an amulet clung to the two threads and given to a dear and beloved person.
