The Epiphany

Page 3
It is said that on this day you shouldn’t lend anyone ember or other things. You shouldn’t feed your children outside so the family will stay together.
Ember was also put in the corners of the house, each one bearing the name of one of the members. Hemp was given to the priest for that year’s abundance. In secret, the girls used to take a few threads from the hemp and put them under the pillow along with some beads. These magic symbols would bring them their wished dream and good luck.
In some parts in from the West the”Vargelatul” was also made: guessing of luck with different objects that were put under clay plates. One after the other the symbols were revealed: the ring was fidelity, money – welfare, grain – abundance.
